Slow Down, Don’t Miss It

Don't miss it

Every spring this tree blooms.  I’m sure you have a tree or two that bloom every spring too.

And like yours, I’ll bet the beautiful flowers only last a day or two before they fall off and float away.

This year, after a very delayed arrival of spring, I noticed the flowers had bloomed.  And by notice, I mean I had a passing thought as I pulled my schoolbus mom mobile minivan out of the garage in a frenzy to pick up another boy at another practice.  ‘Wow…the pink flowers look so pretty.’  That’s about as deep a thought I have many spring days….as I rush from one place to another.

But this time, another thought came to me, and I felt God shining through and helping me grab onto a truth I need in my life.

Slow Down, Don’t Miss It

My days go so fast, especially with 3 boys in sports, a sweet husband, 2 part time jobs, 2 dogs and a home to care for.

But oh so often, in my rush to get to the next place, do the next thing, put on the next ‘hat’, I miss the moments of beauty.

The moments where God gives me a moment to enjoy the beauty of his creation.

A sunset, a smile, a flower, a sunbeam.

Or more importantly, a child that needs a hug, husband that needs some quality time, a boy that needs me to look in their eyes while we talk, a friend that needs a quick dose of encouragement.

And I need to slow down and not miss it.

So I put the car in park, grabbed my camera (that I have learned to leave in the car precisely for moments like this) and snap this picture.

Because I didn’t want to miss this fleeting moment. These pink flowers.  This reminder from God.

And I have a feeling He wanted me to remind you too.

Slow down and don’t miss the beauty, friends.

Shine On

  1. I am trying to focus on this exact thing, noticing the beauty all around me. Hard to do when you’re running full steam ahead. Have a blessed weekend.

    1. Exactly! My life (often by my own doing;) is usually full steam ahead. I savor the rare moment when I slow down to appreciate the beauty all around me.
