Becky Thompson is one of my favorite authors. A few years ago I saw a post of hers and now I read her blog posts consistently. Now I feel like she’s a close girlfriend…and the most encouraging kind!
So when I heard her first book was coming out, I anxiously applied to be on her book launch team and was thrilled to be chosen. And Hope Unfolding didn’t disappoint.
Now, if you’re looking for a brand new concept to knock your socks off and change your life…this might not be the book for you.
But if you want to read a book that makes you feel like you’re sitting in the comfy chairs at Starbucks (don’t pretend you don’t know what ones I mean 😉 with a girlfriend chatting about life, motherhood, marriage and how Jesus is not just present in those things…but is the center of those things….this is the book for you. You will ‘leave’ your time with Becky encouraged and energized.
In my opinion, any book that contains the sentence
We just need hope (and maybe a long uninterrupted nap).
is a must read!!!
Becky shares her heart for Jesus, her childhood, her adulthood in such a beautiful tone and ways that you feel like you were there with her. From leaving Oklahoma City as a girl to move to a very small town in Paoli, OK and the struggle she felt to find her place as the ‘city girl’, meeting her now-husband in the mall in college, to a miscarriage, and now raising 3 little ones, Becky weaves stories from her life to show God’s grace and goodness throughout her life.
Becky shows how God faithfully weaves ordinary threads in her life and creates an extravagant, beautiful life that glorifies Him. Not because it’s easy, but because He is faithful. Faithful to love us, show up in our messes, our joys, our failures. Becky is honest about all of those things.
One thing I loved about the way Becky wrote Hope Unfolding is that it’s not just her story, but each chapter ends with a Let’s Talk section with questions for you to take what she has written and apply it to your life. There’s also a Let’s Pray section with a prayer written by Becky and a Let’s Hope section with a thought for you to focus or mediate on. These features make the book much more interactive than many, but in a very approachable way.
I hope that if you take the time to read Hope Unfolding you will find it to be a blessing.
Another book to add to my list! Thanks, Melissa!
Thanks for reading Shelby!
