Mother’s Day came and went. Mine was fantastic, how was yours?
But one day to honor all the work we do every. single. day……it doesn’t quite seem enough does it?
If you’re like most mothers, regardless if your baby is 1 month old or 35, taking care of everyone else is a higher priority than taking care of yourself.
Which is one of the main reasons us moms are so tired, overwhelmed, and stressed out. We attend to our loved one’s needs but often ignore our own.
Would you let your child stay up late every night? Skip meals? Tell them to stop crying when they’re sad? Live on coffee and the leftovers on someone else’s plate? Hold their pee for hours? Ignore their requests for their favorite snacks or foods? Not give them plenty of water to drink? Of course you wouldn’t!
So why do we think it is ok to do these things for ourselves then?
You are worth ‘momming’ yourself!
You know the care, concern, and energy you use to take care of your people? The way you remind them to be safe, get enough sleep, eat more fruit, drink some water, go outside and play…You deserve the same for yourself!
Friend, you can’t pour out of an empty cup. If you are empty of all of the things that make you feel like a person, like sleep, nutritious food, fun, rest, and time with friends, you have nothing good to give to your family. An empty cup is just…empty. It has nothing to give to anyone.
I know what you’re thinking…how am I going to ‘mom’ myself when I don’t have enough time to take care of my people?
That is a good question!
