This should be easy for me, right?
When your blog’s name is Finding Meaning, Joy and Purpose, a post about purpose should flow right out of your fingers and onto the screen….but….it isn’t.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading, researching and praying about meaning, joy and purpose, and what it means in my life and yours. And even though I’ve done those things, I sometimes wonder if I’m any closer to an answer.
Purpose is defined by Dictionary.com as the reason something exists or an intended or desired result.
And this week, I was scrolling through Facebook and saw this prayer on the wall in the background of a friend’s picture:
Use me, God.
Show me how to take who I am,
who I want to be,
and what I can do,
and use it for a greater purpose than myself.
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
And I really think this sums it all up.
Take me, Lord, and use me for your purpose, for that is bigger than myself.
Simple, yet difficult.
Basic, but not easy.
Philippians 3:9–10
9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
When I look at my life through the truth of this Scripture, I see how true and right this prayer is.
May my purpose be found in Christ. May I know Him. May I share in Him, and through Him. May I share Him with others.
Great job on this week’s prompt! Your neighbor #22 at #fmf
To know Him. Yes! What else is there really? I’m #12 this week. Blessings!
Perfect. Purposeful!
The Philippians Scripture is perfect, Melissa. Thank you for this essay, and especially for reminding me of that passage!

What a great reflection on the word purpose. That quote is so good. I think that is the innermost call in all our hearts. To be used for God’s purpose.
Thanks Amanda! I love ‘the innermost call’…what a great way to think of it!!
I love this! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Em!
What a great quote by MLK Jr. Love it!
