I often will see words or phrases that make me think of songs I love. This week’s Five Minute Friday prompt is no different.
Rise.
What a word. I immediately thought of the song “Give Me Jesus’ by Fernando Ortega.
But in reading the response of the Five Minute Moderator, Kate Montag, I realized that the word ‘rise’ was inspiring many other writers to think af a song as well, but it was Chris Tomlin’s song “I Will Rise’. It surprised me that I didn’t think of that song, as Chris Tomlin is one of my favorite artists.
But that’s not the song God brought to my mind. He brought me a quiet, slow, lovely song that I have heard a few times before. And in His divine plan, in looking for it online, I realized that a few weeks ago as I was writing, it came on my iTunes Radio, and I instantly fell in love with it, so I bought it.
Imagine my surprise as I realized that I already had the song downloaded. And guess what I’m listening to as I write this? Of course I am.
The lyrics of the song say more beautifully than I ever could, the desire of my heart.
Do I get lost, my attentions distracted and turned to other things? Of course they do..though I wish they didn’t.
But how I love my sweet, sweet Jesus for pointing me back to these words that make my heart sing about what I truly desire for my life.
And I hope that reading them, listening to them, allowing them to seep into your heart will fill you with the presence and love of Jesus like I am experiencing as I write these words. God is good sweet friend. He loves you, he loves me.
Rest in His love.
Give Me Jesus
by Fernando Ortega
In the morning, when I rise
In the morning, when I rise
In the morning, when I rise
Give me Jesus
Give me Jesus, give me Jesus
You can have all this world
But give me Jesus
And when I am alone
Oh and when I am alone
And when I am alone
Give me Jesus
Give me Jesus, give me Jesus
You can have all this world
But give me Jesus
And when I come to die
Oh and when I come to die
And when I come to die
Give me Jesus
Give me Jesus, give me Jesus
You can have all this world
You can have all this world
You can have all this world
But give me Jesus
Thank you for the reminder of this song – Give me Jesus! You are right – He is good, and He wants to fill us with His sweet presence. Your words were like a balm to my soul, I like how you write!
I just read your “About me” and I can connect so well with a couple things you said. I too took a break from writing last year, and I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was supposed to get back into it. I too desire words of affirmation and wait for those comments. And I too wonder why it matters in this world permeated with bloggers. But it is obedience that drives me as well, and in that writing, there is clarity. A deeper learning of God, His Words, His ways. Praise Him – He has a plan, and even if it’s just to reach one person for Him, I will obey.
Have a lovely weekend,
We sound like kindred spirits Ruthie! Thank you for sharing your experience and reading my post!
Melissa, that song is also a hymn. (I don’t know if you knew that) It’s always been one of my faves. Funny thing is I didn’t think of that Chris Tomlin song either but rather two other songs by Matt Mahrer and Shawn MacDonald. Visiting from the 5 for 5 and the FMF linkup where I’m #15.
Melissa, it was the FIRST song I thought of also and I mention it in my FMF post. That song and the scripture from Isaiah: RISE SHINE FOR THE LIGHT HAS COME! This song is beautiful and definitely one of my faves – glad you shared it.
I saw you mention it on your post before I saw this comment. I guess great minds think alike!
I love that song too! Isn’t it beautiful? Thank you so much for sharing. Have a blessed day!

Thank you Elizabeth!
